This project involved the civil and structural design of a pedestrian bridge in Hobart with a 51m main span over Brooker Avenue. The project was completed successfully, demonstrating Rare Innovation’s expertise in bridge design and construction in an urban environment.
The Rose Garden Bridge is a pivotal element in Hobart City Council’s urban accessibility strategy. Designed by Rare, it showcases innovative construction techniques while meeting functional requirements. The project includes a 51m main span over Brooker Avenue, ingeniously combining precast concrete components with a concrete deck overlay for efficiency.
The bridge’s approach spans and ramps seamlessly integrate with Bathurst St, necessitating minor realignment.
Rare’s expertise is evident in their use of prestressed planks, insitu deck cantilevers, and steel plate box girders across spans, ensuring structural integrity and streamlined construction. Challenges in civil design, such as subgrade deficiencies, were overcome with creative solutions like incorporating geogrids and geofabrics.
This project exemplifies Rare’s commitment to delivering innovative and resilient infrastructure solutions, contributing significantly to enhancing urban accessibility in Hobart.
